First you should be aware that there are no set ways to write a documentary treatment. An observational documentary treatment is completely different to one fully scripted containing re-enactments or full of interviews eg The Thin Blue Line I have just written a treatment for an observational documentary and it was a lengthy process. Also I wouldn't have started until I had sold it as it is too much work for little money if nobody wants to see it. After years of studying film/documentary and a couple of degrees and books later it is still hard to put bread on the table. If your intention is writing/making films - Good Luck. There is an online screenwriting course at: http://www.teleport.com/~cdeemer/book/index.html For scripts there are the How to bibles of: Viki King, Linda Seger, and Syd Field which tell you how to write a structured film and on sale at any leading bookseller or web sites full of well known scripts such as: Drew's Script-o-rama with over 600 scripts http://www.script-o-rama.com/ or others such as http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/9350/screenplays.html Writer Guild gives reviews of scriptwriting software at: http://www.wga.org/tools/ScriptSoftware/index.html a simple search will turn up hundreds.
