is there actually a protocol for this list?

robert asked in his initial email for people to respond privately, which was 
great.  of course sometimes people will accidentally reply to whole list 
[use "reply" key] vs privately [copy and paste email address of whoever they 
are sending to], that's not what i'm concerned about, including in this 
instance.

specifically it worries me that someone has said they did not want to reply 
privately because they wanted the whole list to read who they admire - i 
don't think this list is the appropriate forum for that -and that we have 
started being sent a reply to each person's response.  presumably this will 
go on for a while.  i know i'm not the only person who is frustrated by lots 
of inappropriate mailings to this list.  i think it is a shame for people to 
end up unsubscribing because of it, because otherwise it is a really 
valuable list.

can some sort of protocol, even loose, maybe be established? (please?)
