=B4s (sic) sugestion is a very good one. If anyone does not
like a specific debate, just refrain from opening the messages having those
specific subjects...

     yeah, right!!!

i'm reminded of that great bumper sticker . . . the one that reads:

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE WAY I DRIVE, GET OFF THE SIDEWALK

the people who look to this list for discussions of film theory
should certainly not be the ones who have to get off the sidewalk . . .THE
point of this list is film theory, and if you wanna talk about other stuff
there are lotsa other places to do it . . . and, by the way, joe
campbell--whom
i admire a great deal--does NOT count as film theory, even if he may be
USED FOR film theory . . . if someone out there wants to develop a
thread about the way in which mythic figures come to play roles in
the imagination that creates films or responds to them, that would be
     great---actually a very important theoretical issue . . . but PLEASE
talk about the way the stuff connects to film theory . . . a list of
your favorite people ain't worth crap . . . and if you're really not sure
what
the hell film theory is in the first place, why not pick up a copy of MAST
&
COHEN and read an essay or two before turning this into a glorified
     fanzine for poseurs
