Hi~

Recently, I happened to watch a film of Kyrgyzstan directer whose name is Aktan
Abdykalykov. The title of this film is 'Beshkempir'. ('The Adopted Son' is English title.) This film is about a bou who adopted by a couple when he was very young.(Maybe as soon as he was born) And He's suffering from the fact that he was adopted when he knew it. And he also suffered from the growing pains, like the first love and the first sexual drive, etc. Most of the film was filmed in B&W but several takes were filmed in colour. In my guess, B&W parts are showing the story time, that is the present. Unlike these, Some coloured shots showing traditional Kyrgyzstan carpets, the girl walking in the plain, seems to be a kind of signs or symbols which indicate the memories of childhood, of course which evoke some general memories of childhood, particularily to Kyrgyzstanish.

I hope you can watch this film. It's so beautiful. But It's not very easy to watch this film. 'The Adopted son' won the prize at '98 Locarno Film Festival and also presented at '98 Sundance Film Festival. I Hope this would give you some help.

Matthew Park.
