 Film theory is only pompous to pompous people (and i thinnk i'm spellig that wrong), who are just going to be pompous windbag's about something else if it wasn't film theory. 
 secondly, all the response to this make you think that film theory is only there to be discussed and if that's the only reason you're studying it, then you are pompous. 
    But, if you love movies and your think they are art. Then you should study it. It stretches your brain and makes you think of movies in different ways. It makes you question why film is the way it is which can lead you to new places artistically. 
   SO maybe it doesn't help to figure out which lens you need or help you find that copy of pulp fiction that was supposed to be in the drama section. But it's good for the noodle
