my personal (living) director obsession is steven soderbergh.  as far as i
know, he's had a very stable, happy life.  and it's certainly prosperous.
though he had some critical and popular disappointments after the insane
success of sex, lies, and videotape, those films (kafka, schizopolis, etc.)
didn't cause a personal, artistic, or financial downfall.  in fact, i
believe that kafka was made for the same studio that released out of sight
(which lost money) and erin brockovich (sp).  clearly people had confidence
in him.

just to name an exception.
