Dear all,
sorry for a not really well formulated query: I am trying to put together
(for my own - potentially teaching - purposes at the point) a usable
filmography of films concerned and (re)presenting the East European revolts
after the war: the Czech 1968 and the Berlin 1953 in particular. (Any
suggestions concerning 1956 would be more than welcome, too: it is just
that (a) I know very little about Hungarian cinema but (b) suspect that
there are many, many, many.) What I am looking for is anything beyond a
simple, factical newscast documentary: a feature film using documentary or
pseudo-documentary footage is ideal. I know of Godard's Pravda and Nemec's
Oratorio (viz. Report of the Party and the Guests), as well the footage in
the unbearable Lightness of Being (pardon the pun): nothing for Berlin.
Any ideas?
On the latter, if anyone can think of films that (besides the almost
unavailable Konrad Wolf's Geteilte Himmel) (re)present, directly, the
building of the Wall, that will be wonderful too.
So many thanks
Sincerely,
Simon Krysl
