Before we all read a couple dozen more "Okay--let's do it" messages, let's assume that there is enough isolation and overwork out here, each to our own molecule, yet our bodies arranged apropos to screens, to warrant many of us commencing this reading group--and, thus, let's commence. I'm terrible at organizing, but I propose the following by way of getting us started. 1. Mondays each week is a good check point, I think. It gives us all the weekend to catch up on our reading, etc. 2. Let's decide on a subject heading for posts to the reading group--nothing flashy, just "discussion--week #" or something, so that everyone on the Foucault list can either keep track of the discussion, or delete those messages b/c they're not interested. 3. How about we aim for 20-30? pages a week and designate these pages by the subject/# heading of the table of contents--in my copy, that would look like: The prose of the world, iv-v for instance. Is that fairly consistent w/ what others' copies look like? I'm loathe to suggest we keep the discussion in English, but I fear the discussion breaking off into unrelated threads if we don't assume some commonality--so why don't we say that if a participant is more comfortable writing in French, then the rejoinder to that message, if at all possible, should be in English so that the high-school-Frenched among us can keep up, asking for clarification when necessary. Sooo, how about Las Meninas for Monday? (I'm not going even pretend to want to suggest a rule for how we start discussion each week. Someone *else* have a plan?) Gina -AT- SUNY ------------------
