Normally attributed to Hobbes and Machiavelli but with a lineage that stretches back at least to Thucydides. And Foucault's point about politics being war by other means is simply a mutation of Clausewitz. We call this Realism and it has being practiced by Nixon, Kissinger et.al for years and most brilliantly expounded by Hans Morgenthau. Is this really where F leaves us?
