Daniel:  if it's a matter of taking a position, well, then, of course I
support the arrest and prosecution of Pinochet.  But so what?  Having made
that pledge of allegiance, is it *now* all right for me to go on to
express my reservations?  (One might think of the pledges of allegiance
demanded of Foucault to the revolution by Marxists, to liberal humanist
values by Habermas and Rorty, to the value of knowledge by
anti-relativists ... it's all a little embarrassing).

Anyway, thank you for your last post, which was a thoughtful and eloquent
response to a question which deserved no answer. ;) As to the mistakenly
literal reading of your "satirical" post--that's the second such incident
on this list in the last few months.  Further proof that in this age of
irony, irony is dead.
