I teach a similar media studies class and have been trying to integrate
Foucault into it. Mark Poster is also tough to read, but I sometimes bring
up his application of Foucault in his discussions of databases. This page
also does the same thing:
http://www.gslis.mcgill.ca/marginal/mar9-2/database2.htm . Check this one
out as well: http://www.bsing.net/foucault.html . Poster's page is here:
http://www.hnet.uci.edu/mposter/ .

I've also used a book called Theories of the Information Society, but the
author's name is lost in the haze of a New Year's hangover. There's a
chapter on Anthony Giddens, looking at the way surveillance can be described
as the defining feature of the information society.

Hope this helps, as I'm also very much interested in the intersections
between Foucault and media theory,
Andrew
