most (if not all) academics are "discourse-masturbators."  so are artists.  its just 
the way things are, thus far.
adorno is a hermeneuticist, a negative interpretor true, but he is looking at the 
object and attempting to intuit, interpret, illuminate, tease, etc. something out of it.  
and, insofar as materialism is materialist - it contains elements of 
lebensphilosophie and existentialism.  expunged?  would this not be the 
erradication of the hegelian marxist "golden" (a capitalist metaphor?) threat err... 
thread - methinks expunged is too undialectical.
