I think these surfaces that Stephen describes are characteristic of some 
of the multi-linked Web pages at the moment, as well as of the deeper 
topology of the Net itself. I've been working with analyzing these in my 
Internet Text which attempts to duplicate these multiple topologies, and 
more recently have been attempting as well analogs of the chora (Plato/ 
Kristeva) in the visual. If you go to the Spoon home-page you'll see 
references to this stuff.

"Leakages" makes uncanny sense, even on the level of packet transmission,
where bottlenecks across the splay/fragmentation of what appears to be a
singular message, lend themselves to alternative routes, only reassembling
"themselves" at the end of the receiver, as if they were always already a 
coherent whole/hole, complete with proper name.
