The below message came to spoons for distribution, and not everyone 
agreed that it was appropriate for posting to all of the lists, so we've 
each decided to post (or not) to the lists for which we act as liaison. 
I've decided to pass it along. I realize that there's no way to tell 
whether this is a legitimate appeal or not, although it's hard for me to 
imagine whose interests would be served by a hoax like this, if in fact 
it turned out to be a hoax. Anyway, you're all adults, I presume, so I'm 
leaving it to each of you to decide what to do with it. If you do decide 
to respond, please respond to the ORIGINAL poster, and not to me, to 
spoons, or to the list. Thanks.

Subject: Can you help our library?

Greetings!

I teach at Norman County High School in Twin Valley, Minnesota.  On
December 26, 1995, much of our school burned down.  Along with the loss
of lesson plans and expensive computer equipment, one of our greatest
losses was our library.

The entire library and all of its contents were lost.  Not a single book
was saved.  I am putting out a request to any individual or organization
who might be able to spare some books and send them to us.  Do you have
any extra copies or copies earmarked to be thrown out soon?  If so, would
you consider sending them to us?

Also, if you have any suggestions regarding to whom I may appeal for
further help, please pass their names or addresses my way.  Please feel
free to spread the word about our need.  We are a rather small school and
our insurance settlement may take over two years!
