Dear Judith,

I'm wondering in particular about some of the less well-known
authors featured in Jardine's and Menke's "Shifting Scenes": Claudine
Herrmann, Jeanne Hyvrard, Marcelle Marini, Michele Montrelay, Christiane
Rochefort & Francoise Collin. In the future, I plan on doing a little
research on their recent publications to compare them with the
direction that Chantal Chawaf has taken (about whom I am writing my
dissertation). I'd be interested chatting with anyone out there on
this list who is doing research on these authors. I'm still
reading Chawaf and haven't a clear picture of her evolution, so I can't
really say I have a particular idea "en tete" about what I'm looking for
at this point...

In my secondary reading, I've noticed that many critics
(Susan Suleiman being one exception) seem to
consider "ecriture feminine" to be passe and no longer "important" or
"influential" (with the exception of the big three: Cixous, Irigaray and
Kristeva and of course writers like Duras and Wittig). However, Chawaf
has published 8 or so novels in the last ten years which is a definite
indication that someone is still reading her and interested by her work.
I also think it's telling that she has worked with 7 or 8 different
publishing houses, among them some of the largest in France, so I'm assuming
she is perceived as an artist/philosopher of interest to a rather wide
audience. Perhaps this has more to do with her literary talent than her
"femininst" philosophy...I'm not sure...
	Anyway, thanks for your interest...
