She came to the occult by way of utopian socialism (Barbara Taylor's _Eve and the New Jerusalem_ is an excellent source here), Christian mysticism (Boehme, Swedenborg, St. Simon, and others), and German Romantic literature (especially Goethe and Bettina Brentano von Arnim). I am exploring all of these connections in my current book project (as well as many of the resemblances to Irigaray's thought). Irigaray continues to be the best single guide I have found for reading Margaret Fuller. In this regard, I have been extremely influenced by Margaret Whitford's wonderful study, _Luce Irigaray: Philosophy in the Feminine_, especially her analysis of the utopian impulse in Irigaray.
