Karin, to answer two parts of your questions: I always remember that I'm 
reading any translated text in translation.  That condition ends up being 
part of the context for my writing about a translated text.  But I also 
trust that translators do their best not to lead readers astray.

Also, about journals, query the Translation Review, ed. Rainer Schulte, 
The University of Texas at Dallas.  They tend to focus on issues in 
literary translation, but they might be interested.
