The best response to this question in contemporary French thought is, I
think, to be found in Irigaray's *J'aime a toi* which is among other
things, a sustained mediation on the negative. Perhaps you'd like to take
a look at it; or perhaps you have, and have thoughts on her very different
thinking of the negative?
