I was browsing the women2women website and found a discussion of Faludi's LA Times (i think) op-ed piece on the presidential sex scandals and the difference between girl power (defined as immature and politically powerless) vs. the 'power' of adult women. The essay seems concerned largely with the question of women and emotional maturity. I'm including the link because this might a topic that could get us going again on this list. It seems to me (without a whole cup of coffee in my system yet) that there are possibilites for looking at this question in light of both Kristeva's and Irigaray's works/categories, and besides I thought it was rhetorically a very interesting piece. A little cultural critical fun anyone?? the Faludi article: <http://www.laweekly.com/ink/archives/97/13faludi-2.19.98.shtml/> the women2women discussion: <http://women2women.com/cgibin/WebX.cgi?14-AT-^1026-AT-.ee6b6ed/0> Meaghan, waking and studying for comps *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Someday there will be girls and women whose name will no longer signify merely an opposite of the masculine, but something in itself; the feminine human being. --- R.M.
