Tom,

Before I teach Kristevan theory, I do at least one class session on the
descent of Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth.  I compare Kristeva's artist's
descent, death, and rebirth through access to the chora to Inanna's descent,
death and radiant rebirth through reintegration of the "earth-mother."  The
myth provides images for these otherwise very difficult and somewhat
abstract concepts.   I have quite a section on it in the dissertation I
completed a couple of years ago.  I can send it if you want.
