Here's another late thought--Thanks, Hilary, for adding most of what I 
was thinking when I read the exchange. I also think its important to 
distinguish between Irigaray's descriptions of the way things are--that 
in point of fact are her analyses of what's wrong with the present order 
and her descriptions of what she sees as moving towards a different 
order.  Both of these are quite complex--I am beginning to see how we 
can't read Irigaray without engaging in the same kind of back and 
forth/double meanings/ and multiple possibilities.
