The New School
Director of Bachelor of Arts Program

The New School, the founding division of New School University, seeks an
experienced academic administrator who will provide leadership, planning,
and oversight of its Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts program. Launched in
1943, as one of the first liberal arts degree programs designed
specifically for adults, the B.A. Program currently enrolls over 400
students and is expected to grow. In addition to its campus program, an
online B.A. degree program is available for upper division students. The
Director of the B.A. Program reports to the Dean of The New School and
works closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Office of
Admissions and Student Services, and the Department Chairs who develop the
curriculum. The Director supervises the B.A. Program administrative staff
and eleven part-time core faculty who, in addition to teaching, provide
academic advising to students and participate in program planning and
development. The Director is expected to assist in the development of new
programs and concentrations, to foster academic excellence, and to engage
in fund-raising activities. Candidates should have a strong academic
background in the liberal arts with a Ph.D. preferred; administrative and
teaching experience, preferably in a non-traditional university setting
with adult students; flexibility, creativity, eclectic interests, and a
collaborative management style.

Review of applications begins on May 1, 1999 and will continue until the
position is filled. Letters of application or nominations along with a
current curriculum vitae and the names of at least three references should
be sent to Linda Dunne, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, 66 West 12th
Street, room 301, New York, NY 10011.

The New School is strongly committed to an educational environment in which
curriculum and every other aspect of university life reflect the
multicultural city and the international world in which we live. New School
University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
