 This is about asking you to write a letter to the
 nigerian authorities in favour of Safya HUSSEINI
 TUNGAR-TUDU, a young nigerian girl who has been
 sentenced to death in her country for expecting a
 baby without having a husband. This fact is
 considered as a serious offense in the eyes of the
 fundamentalistic Islamic law - which  is the penal
 code there. 
 Unless strong international   pressure intervenes
 within  a very short time, Safya    will be placed
 in a pit, , half buried and finally lapidated to
 death by the people of her village. 
 For the moment she is locked up in her house where
 she feeds the child that is synonym to her
 condamnation to death. She will be able to feed
 him
 a few weeks more, then she will be taken to the
 pit
 and will be massacrated. (this has been confirmed
 by
 Amnisty International) 
 
 We can do something by writing to the Nigerain
 Embassy  asking the President of the Nigerian
 Republic to  spare her life. 
 We need many letters, that is the reason why I ask
 you to please transfer this appeal to your
 friends.
 ( to those who have and do not have an e-mail 
 address...) and to write immediately to the
 Ambassy.
 
 
 If you do not do this rapidly the risk is great
 that
 we'll be too late. 
 
 A last detail:  As often with this kind of thing,
 the father of the child has been  set free, for
 lack
 of proof. 
 
 "We cannot stand beside the pit and contemplate
 the
 ultimate offence of intolerance, ignorance and
 lies"
