MY APOLOGIES TO THOSE WHO HAVE RECEIVED IT BEFORE>>>> THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE HABERMAS BIBLIOGRAPHY FOR THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING WORLD IS FINALLY AVAILABLE! "MAPPING HABERMAS FROM GERMAN TO ENGLISH 1952-1995: A BIBLIOGRAPHY," University of Sydney, Australia, 1995. 70 pages. ISBN 0 646 25815 X. Compiled by Demetrios Douramanis. "Ich bin ausserordentlich beeindrucht von Ihrer umfassenden Bibliographie." "I am extremely impressed by your comprehensive bibliography" Professor Juergen Habermas (from a letter to D. Douramanis) Dear everyone, After two years of research I have finally completed and published what is without doubt the most exhaustive and up-to-date bibliography of Habermas's works for English-speaking readers. "Mapping Habermas" contains an up-to-date record of Habermas's German publications (including the pirate editions), and all English translations and re-translations. It identifies abridged and non-abridged translations, and provides additional information in footnote form (there are 335 footnotes in total). This additional footnoted information is an important feature of the bibliography. For example, given that many re-translations have been printed under different titles the reader will be able to know whether they need to read a specific article as they may have already read it under a different title. Furthermore, given that most of Habermas's writings originally appeared in journals, newspapers, edited books and magazines, or were delivered as lecture or discussion and occasional papers, information on their origin and/or occasion is also given in the footnotes. The "book contents" of the German edition books have been displayed as if one had the German editions in front of them with the corresponding page numbers of each chapter or essay, interview etc. Whenever a section has been translated the relevant information is given directly below the German title - this allows readers to clearly identify exactly which parts of Habermas's German edition books have and have not been translated. This format proves very useful in cases when readers come across writings refering to a German edition of Habermas's works - one can easily identify the German edition in the bibliography and immediately recognise whether the cited section of the book has been translated into English. Works not published in Habermas's books (i.e., journal articles, newspaper and magazine articles, etc.) are cited as works in their own right. An extensive German-English "Key-words in Title" index is provided, and all untranslated works cited are provided with an English translation of the title [in square brackets] to assist non-German-speaking readers to identify the topics of these papers. Users of the bibliography can be assured that a great deal of attention was paid to maintain accuracy. My decision to compile "Mapping Habermas" was motivated by a concern that there was quite simply no comprehensive source one could rely on to identify exactly which of Habermas's writings were actually available in English. This problem has - for now at least - been overcome. The publication of "Mapping Habermas" was not intended to be (and is not) a profit making venture. Its price has been set to cover production costs only. It is glue-bound in paperback and A5 in size (206 x 135mm). Price per copy: For those wishing to buy the book within Australia - (Australian Currency Only) The price is AUST$13 per copy (this price includes air-mail postage throughout Australia). Please send a cheque or "Australia Post" money-order [payable to "DEMETRIOS DOURAMANIS"] to the address below. I anticipate that many will appreciate the benefits of such a research aid. Regards, Demetrios.
