Subject: HAB: INTERNET and the public sphere

dear Alinta,
your topic "internet and democracy, with reference to Habermas' work" is really
interesting. I am currently doing some research on the internet as a new public
sphere as well, however, it will only lead into an article. Habermas himself is
not too talkative about electonic media, which is why it is always somewhat
difficult to relate his notion of "public sphere" to things like the internet.

>From his newer work I can recommend his remarks in "Faktizitaet und Geltung."
Frankfurt: Suhrkamp 1992, Chapter VII: "Deliberative Politik -- Ein
Verfahrensbegriff der Demokratie" and Chapter VIII: "Zur Rolle von
Zivilgesellschaft und politischer Oeffentlichkeit."
This book should be available now at MIT Press under the title "Between Facts
and Norms" (supposedly appearing in April 1996)

You've probably also heard of
Craig Calhoun (ed.): Habermas and the Public Sphere. Cambridge: MIT Press
1992

A pretty interesting collection of articles on the public sphere and the
internet is (unfortunately in German):
Rudolf Maresch (ed.): Medien und Oeffentlichkeit. Munic: Boer 1996

That's it for now. I'd be happy to keep in touch about this topic.

Bernhard
