Could anyone help me draw some links between desymbolization,
capitalist social relations, and instrumental rationality? I am trying
to flesh out some of the psychological aspects of the colonization of
the lifeworld and am having trouble pinpointing, first, the particular way
in which social relations informed by instrumental rationality would
foster desymbolization (a la Lorenzer), and second, how this would occur
specifically under capitalist systemic operations. Any related references or
speculations would be welcome, especially those that really delve into
the intrapsychic end of the matter using any variety of psychoanalytic
theory.

Thanks,

Tod Sloan
