Subject: HAB: Practical, Theoretical, and Emphatic Reason

hey ya'll,

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the difference
between practical and theoretical reason. Agnes Heller has a
wonderful article in Rasumsen, ed., Universalism vs.
Communitarianism about the difference.

For Heller - theoretical reason involves the whole of
philosophy - and attitude toward the ideal - the whole.
practical reason is our day to day attitude toward people and
things. she keeps them both quite separate.

my thoughts on emphatic reason seem to exist in the
transition between these two forms. from practical to ideal
(which, i suspect, can only be accomplished emphatically).

any thoughts?,
ken
