I apologize for stepping into an involved discussion somewhat abruptly, and by combining anachronistic (or, asynchronistic) notions of Habermas. But others are now going on about the system and lifeworld, which is the focus of the second volume of TCA. I didn't mean to focus on Antti's post, which was admittedly included more in the manner of chance operations. I must sincerely confess, however, that my recent post was too simplistic and deviant. Regarding Rauno Huttunen's and Gary Davis's points, I again apologize for using asynchronistic readings of Habermas. My point would have been better made if I had avoided the term "ideal speech situation". Is Habermas's rationally vs. empirically motivated distinction in TCA "viable"? Can I ask this question? Is this a legitimate question? Sincerely, Erik Davis --- from list habermas-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
