State News Agency Calls Kostunica Elected President 

BELGRADE (Reuters) - Yugoslavia's official Tanjug news agency, long
seen as a mouthpiece of Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, called
opposition leader Vojislav Kostunica ''elected president of
Yugoslavia'' Thursday.

``Elected President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Vojislav
Kostunica told tonight a crowd of several hundred thousand people in
central Belgrade that he is proud that the people of Serbia had shown
such confidence and elected him the president,'' Tanjug said.

The news followed a brief and rare urgent report on Tanjug announcing
that from now on the agency was siding with the people of its country
and that from now on it would stick to principles of professional
journalism in its reporting.

It signed the statement with: ``Journalists of liberated Tanjug.''
