A quick note to say my recollection of the Giddens comment was accurate, but 
I can't find the source of JH on misreading as a potentially beneficial 
*mutation* (may have imagined it).

Still, found some interesting comments from JH on hermeneutical translation  
which are useful read in context with Ken's comments   (sorry I don't have 
time to quote in full now). For eg, _LSS_ 1988 pp 154 -55.
