Bill Hord: Thanks! Very thought-provoking response! I think you have
right, largely. 

By the way, 'defeasible' is also used by Analytical philosophy--I
think it's used fairly commonly; in particular, it was a recent
discussion in Analytical philosophy of mind, using 'defeasibility'
(of one's certainty about one's own mental contents), that caused me
to wonder yesterday about the relationship between 'fallibilism' and
'defeasibility'.

Matthew: Thanks also for your comments--and the reference. It was
partly your recent postings that brought to mind my question about
'fallibilism'.
