The English translations of Habermas' _The Postnational Constellation:
Political Essays_ and _The Liberating Power of Symbols: Philosophical
Essays_ have now been published by MIT Press.

The former collection contains several essays that I had not seen in
English before, including -- I am happy to learn -- the long title essay,
"The Postnational Constellation and the Future of Democracy."  I had
thought that this would be the same as "The European Nation State and the
Pressures of Globalization" (_New Left Review_ 235 (May 1999): 46-59), but
the newly translated essay goes considerably beyond the other one in
several ways.  It's a really worthwhile addition to his line of essays on
globalization, multiculturalism, and cosmopolitan democracy and citizenship.
