Thanks for the melancholic response. It is a bit sad watching the way in 
which the human species appears to be directly shaping its future  
evolution. What did we expect? Genetically engineered enlightenment? I have 
read too much Adorno now to be so naive :-)

BTW, the person who *loaned* me the original review asked whether any 
respondents would mind their replies being forwarded to him. So if you are
