Subject: HAB: re: Review of Heath's book

John:

I enjoyed reading your review. Well written.

The book seems to be a very useful application of JH's work
to rational choice theory, according to your review. I
haven't read the book, since I'm not influenced by rational
choice theory. (I was intending to read the book when it's
in paperback.)

Presuming your account of Health's critique of Habermas is
accurate(I have no reason to think otherwise), I'm less
interested in Health's book now than I was before I read
your review. His basic critical stance toward Habermas--as
you represent it--is a misrepresentation of Habermas's
position.

What Heath presents as his own view (according to your
review) is just a *Habermasian* view. I

In other words, the "Habermas" of Heath's book (according
to your review) is *basically* Heath's own scaffolding.

It would interesting to get into the details of Heath's
critique, in order to show how it is that JH already
incorporates the position that Heath counterposes.

Regards,

Gary
