Subject: HAB: Re: Why has Islam failed to modernize?

Bob pointed out, quite correctly, a similar kind of irrational, tribal
drive behind Nazi Arianism and the current wave of Islamic
fundamentalism.

The American and European Left should look closer before making
knee-jerk assumptions that 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend.'

<P>I was replying to a mail by Thomas. I wonder why your jibes
were  directed against me and not against him? If Habermas
list is o.k with questions like , why has Islam failed to modernize?
then it should be o.k with its reply as well.</P>
<P>I believe Habermas to be one of the greatest living European mind
and I feel honoured to engage with his thought. And I have been
benefiting from discussions in this list since I joined it, although
without making much active participation because of the constraints of
time etc. </P>
<P>I have never initiated any discussions about religion or Islam (I am
not a scholar of Islam or any other religon for that matter) on
this list and have hardly ever replied to various such discussions
(mostly consisting of expressions of hatred and vilification of
muslims, arabs, palestinians etc.). Just go and read again torrents of
mails after September 11.</P>
<P>Although in my mail I was not talking about Islam in religous sense,
and I think Bob was not taking Islam in that sense as well, but in
politico social sense, I still believe all Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic
religions including Islam to be shared treasure of humanity and have
great respect for each of them. I can not imagine any sane person
conceiving them as pox on the face of humanity. Habermas nor liberalism
would have been possible without this shared treasure.</P>
<P>Similarly I can not take seriously your claims about the imperialist
character of Islam as it is obvious from the context that you do
not even understand the meaning of Imperialism, otherwise
you would not have been accusing Islam of Imperialism. Go and read
some of Lenin or may be consult some good Marxist dictionary first.</P>
<P>Your email just shows your intolerent and sick mind and did not
deserve any response. If you are so intolerent of views other than
yours, just delete such mails without reading them. Or join some
moderated list with yourself as moderator.</P>
<P>best regards</P>

<DIV></DIV>I've silently endured a lot of trifling hot air since
subscribing to this
<DIV></DIV>list, but this fascist drivel takes the cake. What is this
jackass doing
<DIV></DIV>here? Habermas may be basically a liberal, but as a person
born in a Nazi
<DIV></DIV>nation he had to take the indispensable heritage of
liberalism seriously
<DIV></DIV>and build upon it conceptually. If one rejects this, why
engage with
<DIV></DIV>Habermas at all? The freedom from feudalism, and later from
fascism and
<DIV></DIV>Stalinism, implies inter alia a liberation from irrational
and illegitimate
<DIV></DIV>authority. Islam, like Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and
other
<DIV></DIV>malignant religions, is a pox upon humanity, and every bit
as imperialistic
<DIV></DIV>as the imperialist west, as its whole history demonstrates,
and there can't
<DIV></DIV>be any solutions until its force is neutralized along with
the other
<DIV></DIV>malificent forces of the world. I can't imagine there being
any question
<DIV></DIV>about this at all on this list, unless of course interest in
Habermas here
<DIV></DIV>is just a vacuous intellectual game, which it does seem to
be. </div><br clear=all><hr>Chat with friends online, try MSN
