Once, after reading some academic-bashing somewhere or other, my partner
remarked, as I was standing in the kitchen cutting some vegetables, that *they*
carry on as if academics never stand in the kitchen and cut vegetables.

Perhaps *we* ought to announce, everywhere, at every opportunity, that we do
indeed stand in the kitchen and cut vegetables--practically on a daily basis!
And when the police of academic abstraction demand to know what our cutting
vegetables has to do with whatever matter (or rather, whatever gas) is at hand,
we ought to reply: "Should not academics stand in the kitchen and cut
vegetables? Down with the academics who never stand in the kitchen and cut
vegetables!"
