read this today.thought it pertinent.

Habermas argues that the 'unitary thinking of metaphysics [considers] the 
procedural concept of communicative reason is too weak because it discharges 
everything that has to do with content into the realm of the contingent and 
even allows one to think of reason itself as having contingently arisen.' 
(in _PMT_, MIT Press, 1994: 116)

I would suggest this is close to how JH conceives of the content of reasons.
