Subject: RE: Re[2]: [HAB:] HAB: Validity of 'redemption' Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 03:52:12 +0000 Hello James and others, Sorry I read this excellent post rather late. I have noticed while reading TCA that McCarthy also uses the expression 'making good' for einlösen. For e.g. on TCA I: 249 which corresponds to the p. 339 in the original (1995). Still ambivalent about your point about 'raising' of claims though. May be due to constant usage it has become a second habit so that 'making validity claims' does not seem to have the same force. May be staking would do. best regards ali ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I too like Gary's excellent sugggestion of 'making good' for <einloesen>. I shall adopt the usage from now, on if I may. Here's one that gets me: <einen Geltungsanspruch erheben.> So far as I know, no-one the whole world over, apart from almost without exception every English-speaking Habermas scholar <raises> claims to validity. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself with cool emoticons - download MSN Messenger today! http://www.msn.co.uk/messenger --- from list habermas-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
