Sorry I read this excellent post rather late. I have noticed while reading 
TCA that McCarthy also uses the expression 'making good' for einlösen. For 
e.g. on TCA I: 249 which corresponds to the p. 339 in the original (1995).

Still ambivalent about your point about 'raising' of claims though. May be 
due to constant usage it has become a second habit so that 'making validity 
claims' does not seem to have the same force. May be staking would do.

I too like Gary's excellent sugggestion of 'making good' for
<einloesen>. I
shall adopt the usage from now, on if I may.

Here's one that gets me: <einen Geltungsanspruch erheben.> So far as I
know, no-one the whole world over, apart from almost without exception
every English-speaking Habermas scholar <raises> claims to validity.
