Dear Malcolm,

I too share a deep regard for Husserl and his persistence at taking on
the difficult problems head on.

I found Brough's work oh Husserl's time consciousness very useful. I don't
have the reference in my clinical office, its at home if you haven't
read
it I'll give you the reference. it divides up his work into two periods
the first being a schematic representation of time and the second period
where he focuses on the flow of consciousness. The first is characteristic
of the LI period and the second moves him into embracing the ego after
rejecting it at first in the first edition of LI. I've never seen it
explicitly explained by Husserl that it was his study in time that led
him to change his mind about the ego but the history of his thought clearly
indicates that his studies in time had a tremendous influence on his thought.

best regards,
greg
