From: "Stuart Elden" <Stuart.Elden-AT-clara.co.uk> Subject: Antigone Date: Sun, 13 Dec 1998 16:42:24 -0000 Henk, Thanks for this. What I thought was interesting was that while you were disputing many of the claims made about H's thinking of racism, you offered an 'olive branch' of agreement on the reading of Antigone. I thought this was interesting given my belief that the Koinon papers (which I haven't read yet) would be intimately linked with the work on the polis and my belief that the polis work is a distancing from political attitudes of the time. I'm still not entirely sure how you reconcile your admiration for the reading of Antigone with the problems you have with the Koinon papers. Perhaps I need to read them. Thanks for the re-pointing in the direction of Burckhardt. I knew about this, but might go back for another look. BTW where are you drawing your le politique/la politique distinction from? I know it's there in Lacoue-Labarthe and Nancy (a collection of their writings has just appeared in English, called Retreating the Political), but maybe it's more widespread than that. Any further pointers gratefully received. Best wishes Stuart --- from list heidegger-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
