Date: Tue, 26 Jan 1999 15:11:28 EST Subject: Re: Heidegger in Germany I just joined this group so I apologize if I come in with something already discussed, etc. I had one thought about this question of Heidegger's "wrong turn' or this area where questions need to be answered. I believe Adorno has an essay (having nothing to do directly with H) in which he touches on how thinking and opinions are shaped by the relations of domination. To live under false social conditions will already infect one prior to any specific content. Heidegger certainly can be judged in his relationship with Husserl it seeems to me, but his political relationships seem almost too polluted by the social circumstances of the era to ever be unravelled. It occurs to me how difficult it is to attribute anything like causal or clear connections between the forces of history and any philosopher. Obviously, almost paradoxically, there are connections...and that is what philosophy often is about. It is just weighing and examining as history continues. I teach theatre (and write plays) and on this personal level H remains a constant touchstone for navigating through a continually worsening cultural landscape. --- from list heidegger-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
