From: "Nathan Goralnik" <rhizome85-AT-home.com> Subject: poem Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2001 18:21:20 -0700 I tried to send this before. Maybe it will work this time. If you get it twice (or more) I'm really sorry. "Critical Self-Awareness On A Friday Night" (Rough Draft) There's just interpretation--no fixed, stable reality. I lack intrinsic essence--I'm flux and relationality. Endless interpellation, And capitalist alienation, Modern subject formation, I'm lost in positionality. I deconstruct my innocent whiteness--it perpetuates racism. I critique my masculinity--it's a product of humanism. Ontological relativity, Reject all normativity, And perform your subjectivity, But escape from nihilism. I reject the modern narrative--I eschew all teleology. I stick to micro-politics--no Marxist eschatology. Historicize all structures, Try to create a rupture, At this historical juncture, I hate your methodology. I'm decentered and I'm disciplined--an object of control. I'm all extrinsic features--just parts without a whole. I'm simulacra and simulation, Just some subjectivation, Some insidious power relation, And I doubt I have a soul. I was raised on Leon Trotsky--I used to be a Red. There is no rationality--it's all inside your head. Don't trust immutability, Metaphysics or stability, Or Judeo-Christian humility, Remember, God is dead. ~Nate -- "The living body is a loving body, and the loving body is a speaking body. Without love we are nothing but walking corpses. Love is essential to the living body, and it is essential in bringing the living body to life in language." ~Kelly Oliver --- from list heidegger-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
