Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 14:02:42 -0400 From: edwin ruda <edwin.ruda-AT-verizon.net> Subject: Path-os of Being Report: "Being" Attacked Boom - Rumble - Boom. Edwin's studio is on Hudson Street, about ten blocks north of of the Twin Towers. He gets downstairs a few minutes after the second plane hits the South Tower...masses of people gazing upward at the buildings wrapped in smoke and flame. Silence, whispers, as if one were in a theater and wished to catch each word and every movement of the performers in a five-star drama.... ("The laboring animal is left to the giddy whirl of its products so that it may tear itself to pieces and annihilate itself as empty nothingness"). Edwin is struck by the "boredom" & "entertainment" features of the event, even while repelled by its realtime horror. He wears a white mask for malodorous dust protection, and his shoes are covered with rubble soot. The police cars, amblances. and trucks whizz by in all directions, red & yellow lights flashing, sirens wailing. Will there be an intermission? ("It almost seems as if the being of pain were cut off from man...similarly the being of joy. Can the extreme measure of suffering still bring a transformation here?") Good citizens line Broadway and West Street applauding the firefighters, policemen, and workmen who emerge from the search for buried victims. Edwin applauds too.
