This is as pertinent a question to a Buddhist as to an >Heideggerian, I think. i am able to use the definitive article "the", because here i am free to choose what i think and write, it was a personal statement (i wrote: "for me ...."), it is reflecting my current awareness/conception of the world picture, and sure, anything else may have been different at different times and places. ----- but allow me here to quote from Heidegger's conversation with a Japanese in his "Unterwegs zur Sprache" [p. 119], it's quite remarkable btw. that Heidegger - the westerner- calls himself a "Fragenden" (i.e. a humble and ignorant questioner); and this imho is Heidegger's stance to the east !! "J Ermuntert durch Ihren Hinweis, das Wort sei Wink und nicht Zeichen im Sinne der blossen Bezeichnung. F Winke brauchen den weitesten Schwingungsbereich . . . J worin die Sterblichen nur langsam hin- und herziehen." same wishes, Jan --- from list heidegger-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
