GPS is accurate sometimes to within 3 meters, but it can also be as inaccurate as 100 meters. There are a lot of factors which impact on GPS performance especially near large buildings with metal roofs, radio transmissions, atmospheric conditions, et cetera. I have the best commercial version there is. A Trimble GeoExplorer (costly too) and it does not work well in cities were there are radio transmissions. It does not work too well during cold fronts, etc. There huge cross winds, and other factors which impact performance of missiles. The B52's fly at an elevation of up to 60,000 feet. That means that cruise missiles which are guided by GPS have a lot of interference. Look at how many dead RAF pilots have been killed so far, 16. Two Chinooks, a Tornado. Nice try at deception....War as invisioned by the US is a matter of 'totalizing efficiency' and mass destruction of innocent civilians. It will cost billions of dollars. Ari says that "this is not the first time that the US has become involved in a prolonged war". Also it is now proven that this will not be a "quick surgical strike." The US miscalculated one thing, and that is wide spread distrust of the Americans within all sectors of the Iraqi society. This is a 'battle' against Islam. Not necessarily Saddam Hussein and the ruling Bath Party. This supplemental funding is additional to the existing $300 billion being spent on the military. jf Subject: Re: Shock'N'Awe In a message dated 03/24/03 12:40:30 PM, borealis-AT-mercuryspeed.com writes: << In Baghdad because of the saturation bombing by B52's >> oh PUHLEEZE!! get the facts straight! the bombing of baghdad has been hi-tech and precise. there haven't even been b-52 raids over baghdad, much less saturation bombing (do you know what that is?). the b-52 raids have released cruise missiles from the 700 mile range. and they are gps guided to within 3 meters of the target. what they have been hitting is government buildings on the west side of the river. watch the cnn live tape. you can see this. read a map and you will discover that quarter of the city doesn't have residential quarters. i promise you if there had been saturation bombing by b-52's, the civilian losses would be on the order of tens of thousands. even the iraqis with their strained sense of truth don't claim this. bob --- from list heidegger-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- --- from list heidegger-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
