The latter, on which modern science is based, can still be engaged with by philosophical thinking in a dispute over its adequacy to the phenomena. Faith, by contrast, is immune to thinking altogether. That's not to overlook that as a rule scientists are unaware of the metaphysical underpinnings of their respective sciences and may 'believe' in them unquestioningly.
