How, in your vision, does Heidegger's ontological and temporal distinction
of Angst and fear relate to Freud's unease (uncannyness) of modern man in
civilisation?
rene

Hi Rene!

Freud was an Austrian - does that explain it? ;-)

"Angst" signifies a feeling of insecurity, anxiety, or apprehension. The
master race and their Teutonic blut brothers across the border worry about their
national identity and their image abroad. They worry that all the poolside
loungers will be taken over by the dull Dutch and the lazy layabed English at
their Spanish hotels, and they are down at the pool at the crack of dawn
laying their towels on the seats to reserve them. They worry if they have a spot
on their ass. They worry about the economy. They worry about worrying. So it
is only appropriate that the word comes to us from German, a language spoken
by people who are constantly wracked by angst, and who almost seem to enjoy
it. Germans celebrate worrying — write innumerable books about worrying.
There is 'Sorge und Tod,' 'Tod und Sorge,' 'Sorge und Zeit,' 'Zeit und
Sorge,' Sein und Sorg, ' Sein und Zeit,' and of course Heidegger's classic
all-time best-seller : 'Das Sorgen um Werdend in Bett mit einer Jungen Frau
Gefangen.'

They worship worrying and delight in worrying.
They worry about politics. They worry about riding bicycles on the pavement.
They worry about chewing gum on the bedpost, They worry about the
environment — they worry about the Turkish gastarbeiter.

It's not that Germans don't like to have a good time - one has only to
witness the high cultural event of mass drunkeness at their ubiquitous Beer
Festivals. It's just that they seem to be able to have a good time worrying. They
enjoy discussing their worries. This Germanic trait is also carried on, to a
lesser degree, by the Austrians and the German-speaking Swiss and to a
lesser extent in the Netherlands.

They erect maypoles in all the clearings in their suffocatingly smelly pine
forests and dance around them in the age-old symbolic: ' Sorge-Tanz von den
Rittern der Abenddämmerung.' (The 'Worry Dance of the Knights of the
Gloaming.')
Large amounts of shredded cabbage fermented in brine are consumed at these
nocturnal gatherings, and after the dancing, competitions are arranged where
contestants contend to consume as much sauerkraut as they can in the shortest
period. This naturally generates the production of large quantities of
internal methane gas, and the night skies are illuminated when the young men,
acting as human flame-throwers, drop their lederhosen and ignite the gas with
flaming rolled-up copies of the Versailles Treaty [specially reprinted for the
purpose].

It is thought that Hitler got the idea for his Flammpanzer through his
attendance at these traditional frolics through watching Martin Heidegger's
prodigious performance as a human flame-thrower, the occasion being the celebration
the Philosopher of Nazism's promotion to the rectorship of Freiburg
University.
Heidegger claimed that he perfected his rectal weapon-system in the
dormitories of the Jesuit Seminary from which he was excluded for setting fire to the
curtains.

People like Freud and Heidegger worry that we in the more carefree countries
with large Celtic ethnicities do not worry enough — so they write
interminably long boring books about it, which attempt to convince everybody else that
they should worry too, and that furthermore a state of 'angst' is a part of
the universal human condition, where plainly IT IS NOT. Germans apparently
worry if they are ever happy and they are most at home in an angst-riven state.
Those in the more enlightened and civilised countries who worry, worry about
things, are normal worriers worrying about whether they have enough money to
pay the gas bill and buy petrol for the car. That is not to say that we in
the more enlightened countries of the west don't have some 'German-type
worriers' amongst us, there are the large amount of refugees of german extraction
who fled to britain prior to the war, and the German WW2 prisoners of war who
married British women and made their home here, and there is a minority of
our population who have more deeply rooted personality problems due to
introversion, the effects of morbid forms of transcendentalism perhaps flowing from
awkwardness in social situations, with the concomitant loneliness that it
engenders.

The way to avoid angst is to avoid the company of Germans or reading any
books written by Germans with mild forms of Asberger's syndrome, and potty
Austrians who use angst as a ploy to relieve certain more inadequate members of
the population [usually middle-class females] of large amounts of money.

Suicide Rates (per 100,000), by country, year, and gender.

Belgium 29.4 (sociologists explain this as being due to the large amounts of
beer which is drunk, and the large amounts of tulips they consume as part of
their diet].

Germany 20.2
USA 17.6 [Large Germanic element — based upon sales of Frankfurter
Sausages]
UK 11.8 [Carefree Celts - quick to anger but quick to forgive.]

Since the fall of communism and the opening of trade with the former Soviet
Union, the Russian male suicide rate has shot up to 71.6. This is identified
as coinciding directly with the recent importation and sales of cheap
Russian translations of Being and Time, with the Russian Federation's government
under the leadership of the diminutive Vladimir Putin. President importing
these 'angst promoters' [as the Russian Psychiatric Council call them] by the
tens of thousands in order to control a rapidly increasing population by the
encouragement of felo-de-se..

Demands from the public to remove these books and ban the import of further
copies are met with government silence.
