Subject: anonymity

I really dislike the idea of anonymous posting. (As if, for starters,
we're not already to some extent anonymous. As if our names mean anything
outside the intermittent sequence of posts from our accounts. As if the
sig/nature were stable in the first place.) I fail to see the point. And
I find it scary: Rush Limbaugh is anonymous, Bob Dole is anonymous, and
especially Timothy McVeigh is anonymous. Pat Robertson failed to name his
sources, rendering anonymous both the text and the author of the vicious
anti-Semitic conspiracy texts he plagiarized. I am really not into this
anonymity bullshit. "Death of the author" does not mean anonymity, nor
does it mean plagiarism.
