I would like to argue very strongly in favour of a *new* list, after closing
down the existing Marxism list, and *re-establishing* it. I believe that the
mess that was created in the last several weeks cannot be undone without
something drastic and dramatic.

By all means, go ahead and purge the culprits, but then also issue a policy
statement to the effect that the new Marxism (or whatever) list will not
tolerate all kind of language and the like. In this respect it would be a
departure from current Spoon collective policy, if I understand it correctly.

But I strongly sympathise with Lisa's feelings; and if not politeness, at
least there should be some level of respect/civility among the participants.
Powerful arguments may get people into using a strong language. Well, we
should not be trying to set up an Exon-ised list, obviously. But, it should
neither become the norm to say "fuck you" and the like, or calling people
"shitheads" or whatever.

Continuity and change, that should be the motto.

All the best,
