Date: Fri, 05 Oct 2001 18:24:08 +0100 Subject: cynicism All I've been following the brief discussions of 'Cynicism' over the past week - cynicism , which seems central to the intellectual mood of a couple of the generations that exist in these post-modern times and which is the source of so much of the anti-rationalist impulse that runs through our societies, is one of the primary elements of post-modern culture not just in the personal but also in our institutions - look at their behavior in recent times. Cynicism may be best enframed as the (an element of) contemporary subjectivity formed in the historical process... Perhaps its the other side of the anti-secular pre-religious elements that are so much a part of the current UK govenment.... regards sdv
